A service was held today at Drysdale Cemetery near the town Lockerbie in the Scottish Borders to mark the 20th Anniversary of the Lockerbie Bombing. On the 21st December 1988 at 19:03 Boeing 747-121, N739PA Maid of the Seas, operating on Pan American World Airways Flight 103 from London Heathrow to New York Kennedy Airport and cruising at 31,000 feet exploded at position 55¡ 07? N / 003¡ 21? W above Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. All 16 aircrew and 243 passengers aboard the aircraft died. Two major portions of the aircraft wreckage fell on the town of Lockerbie, the impact and resulting fireball accounting for the lives of 11 residents of the town: 21 homes had to be demolished and many more required substantial repairs.
