The UK government is to guarantee 600 billion pounds of toxic bank assets to help stabilise Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group. Analysts had expected Lloyds Banking Group to place up to 250 billion pounds of its toxic assets into the scheme, which is expected to be unveiled on Friday when the bank is forecast to report its losses. Picture shows £1 million of cancelled £20 bank notes which are situated in the museum inside the Lloyds Banking Group headquarters in Edinburgh.
