EDINBURGH, UK: An evocative painting of the physicist Peter Higgs by leading artist Ken Currie has gone on display at the University of Edinburgh. The Professors theory has dominated theoretical physics for 40 years and soon experiments at the giant CERN particle accelerator in Geneva may verify the existence of the Higgs boson particle and verify Professor Higgs' theory of how elementary particles have mass. The existence of the Higgs boson was proved by results from the Large Hadron Collider at CERN and lead to Professor Higgs being awarded a Nobel Prize for physics. The portrait is being displayed in the University's recently-opened Informatics Forum..
